How To Convert FAT Or FAT 32 To NTFS In Windows XP? What Are The Advantages Of Converting FAT16 To NTFS?

We have been receiving many mails and comments about converting a FAT16 file system or a FAT32 file system to an NTFS file in Windows XP for last few months. Therefore, we have decided to disclose the solution for you now. As everyone knows
•    FAT16
•    FAT32
•    NTFS

Are the standard three file systems for fixed disks Microsoft Windows XP. If you use the NTFS with Win XP you can get an advanced performance, security and reliability for your system. In this post, we have given the steps in detail to convert the drives from FAT to NTFS.
If you are ready to convert, remember
•    The UDF and CDFS can only be accessed with the optical media and you can’t use them with NTFS.
•    Floppy diskettes use FAT12 format only.
•    If you will convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS, some of the earlier programs written for Windows NT 4.0 or for Windows 2000 may cause slow performance.

•    This issue is not applicable on a clean partition of NTFS.
•    It is possible to use the convert command “Convert.exe” in order to convert an existing FAT or FAT32 format to NTFS. Moreover, the conversion will retain all of your files.
•    Converting FAT to NTFS is a single way process, so that you can’t convert a drive or a partition to FAT or to FAT32, if you have converted to FAT to NTFS.
•    If you want to restore the previous file system, you should reformat the drives as FAT. Remember, this action will erase your data from a backup or you may have to reinstall the Operating System.
•    The conversion “Convert.exe” requires some free space in the drives or in the partition to make the conversion. If the command determines that there is no enough space, you can’t convert the drives.
•    If you have another Windows Operating System other than Windows XP please remember.
o    The Operating Systems Windows 2000 and Windows XP only have full access to files on an NTFS volume.
o    At the same time, Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 or later version will be able to access the NTFS volume. However, there are some restrictions.
o    If you have Microsoft Windows ME, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition and earlier like MS-DOS, sorry you can’t access the files on an NTFS volume.

How to convert a FAT16 volume or a FAT32 volume to NTFS?

We strictly recommend you to backup your data on the volume that you want to be converted, although there is a minimal data loss during the conversion.
Follow the following steps to do the conversion.
•    As usual, click on Start and go to Run prompt.
•    Please type “convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs” ? Here drive letter is the drive that you want to convert. Example ? convert e: /fs:ntfs
•    At the same time, if you have the OS in the drive that you are converting, you will be asked to schedule the task when you restart the computer because the conversion can’t be processed when the operating system is running. So, when you are prompted just click Yes.
•    When you receive the following message at the command prompt, you should type the volume label of the drive that you want to convert and press Enter.

The type of the file system is FAT.
Enter the current volume label for drive drive letter

•    When the NTFS conversion is finished, you will receive the following message at the Command Prompt.

Conversion Complete
•    Now you can quit the command prompt.
Troubleshooting Steps for your convenience
•    If you are trying to convert a drive to NTFS, you will receive the following error message at the command prompt.

**This issue occurs when the volume that you are trying to convert is in use.
**You can resolve the issue just by typing Y at the command prompt. The volume or drive is converted to NTFS the next time that you start your computer.

** This will happen only when there are files that are being used in the volume that is being converted.
If you want to resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

New Micro battery, power packed for high performance

For a size of a few millimetres, the new micro-batteries are powerful enough to jump start a car battery and then quickly charge the cell phone. Researchers from the University of Illinois have developed the micro batteries which can be used to drive compact electronic devices and new applications for radio communications. The micro batteries are so good that they can even out power the super capacitors. The results were published in ‘Nature Communications’ in the April 16 issue. The micro batteries have energy and power and with the researchers tweaking the structure of the micro batteries a little bit, its use can be for wide range applications. The high performance of the micro battery is based on its 3-dimensional micro-structure. Based on the design of fast charging cathode by Professor Paul Braun’s group, researchers developed the matching anode and integrated it with the fast charging cathode at a micro-scale and made a complete battery with high performance. These batteries cou
