• Now, you have to expand the Host Name in the Console Tree. Here the Host Name is the host name of the DNS Server.

• Then right click on the Zone you want and then choose Properties. (Example, example.com)
• Now, click the Name Server tab and then click Add.
• Now, you have to type the host name of the server that you want to add in the Server Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) box. For example, type namesvr2.example.com.
• Type the IP Address of the name of the Server in the IP Address Box and then click Add. For example, 192.168.0.22


• Now, click OK and then again click OK.
• Then in the Console tree, you have to click Reverse Lookup Zones, and then right click the Zone you want.
• Now, choose Properties of the Zone.
• After that, click the Name Servers tab and then click Add.
• Now, you can type the host name of the server that you want to add in the Server Name box.
• Then choose Name Server tab and then click Add.
• After that, in the Server name box, enter the host name of the server, which you want to add. For example, namesvr2.example.com.
• Then in the IP address box, you can type the IP address of the name server that you want to add. Then click Add. For example, 192.168.0.22
• Now, click OK two times.

How to install DNS on the Secondary Name Server
Are you ready? Follow these steps:
• First, log on to the Computer as an Administrator.
• Now, click Start, choose Control Panel and then choose Add or Remove Programs.
• Now, click Add/Remove Window Components.
• Click Networking Services in the Component list and then click Details. Here don’t click to Check or Uncheck the boxes.
• Now, you have to choose the Domain Name System (DNS) check box and then click OK.
• Click Next option in the Windows Components.
• Now, you have to insert the Windows 2003 Server CD when you are prompted.
• Then click OK.
• Click Finish on the Completing the Windows Components Wizard.
• Then click Close.
That’s it. DNS is now installed. If you want to start the DNS snap-in, click on the Start Menu, choose Administrative Tools and then click on DNS.

How to configure the Forward Lookup Zone
You have to follow the given steps in order to configure the forward lookup zone on the secondary name server.
• You have to log on to the Secondary Name Server as an Administrator.
• Choose Administrative Tools, and then choose DNS respectively from the Start Menu.
• Click Host Name under DNS in the Console Tree. Here the Host Name is the host name of the DNS server.
• Now, click Forward Lookup Zones, in the Console Tree.
• Now, right click Forward Lookup Zones and then click New Zone.
• Click Next to continue when the New Zone Wizard starts.
• Now, choose Secondary Zone and click Next.
• Type the name of the Zone in the Name box. Example, example.com.
• Then click Next option.
• Then on the Master DNS Servers page, type the IP address of the Primary Name server for this zone.
• Click Add, click Next and then click Finish.
How to configure the Reverse Lookup Zone
You have to follow the given steps in order to configure the reverse lookup zone on the secondary name server.
• Choose Administrative Tools, and then choose DNS respectively from the Start Menu.
• Click Host Name under DNS in the Console Tree. Here the Host Name is the host name of the DNS server.
• Now, click Reverse Lookup Zones, in the Console Tree.
• Now, right click Reverse Lookup Zones and then click New Zone.
• Click Next to continue when the New Zone Wizard starts.
• Then click Secondary Zone. Then click Next.
• After that, in the Network ID box, type the Network ID and click Next. For example, type 192.168.0

Important Note
• The Network ID is the portion of the TCP/IP address that is relevant to the Network.

Now, click Next and then click Finish in the Zone File page.

How to troubleshoot “The Zone Is Not Loaded by the DNS Server error message.”
When you select a Zone on the Secondary Name Server, you can get the error message
Zone not loaded by DNS Server. The DNS server encountered an error while attempting to load the zone. The transfer of zone data from the master server failed

in the right pane of the DNS window.

If the Zone transfer is disabled, this issue will occur. If you want to resolve the issue, follow the following steps.
• First, log on to the Primary Name server Computer as an Administrator.
• Then click on Start Menu, choose Administrative Tools and then choose DNS.
• Click Host Name under DNS in the Console Tree. Here the Host Name is the host name of the DNS server.
• Click Forward Lookup Zones in the Console tree.
• Now, right click the Zone that you want to add under the Forward Lookup Zones. Then choose Properties.
• Now, click the Zone Transfer tab.
• Now, you have to click the Allow Zone Transfers check box and then choose any of the following options.

1. To any server
2. Only to servers listed on the Name Servers tab
3. Only to the following servers.

Note : If you click Only to the Following Servers, you have to type the IP address of the Secondary name Server in the IP address box. Then click on Add.
• Now, click Apply and then click OK.
• Now, you can quit the DNS snap-in.
