How to customize the Start Menu options in Windows 7

We have already discussed about editing and rearranging tips in our blog. In such a way, this is another one exclusively comes for Windows 7 lovers. You can choose which commands should be appeared on the Start Menu and how they should be arranged. Moreover, you can add options to the Control Panel, Devices And Printers, Network Connection and other Key tool. In addition, you’ll be able to enable or disable the Personalized menus on the All Programs menu.

How to change the Start menu options, follow these steps:

•    First, right click on the Start button on the Taskbar and choose Properties.
•    Then Taskbar And Start Menu Properties dialog box will be displayed with the Start Menu tab selected by default.
•    Then on the Start Menu tab, choose the Power Button Action list in order to select the Action to use when the Power Button is pressed. The option comprises Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep and Shut Down.

•    On the Start Menu tab, use the Power Button Action list to select the action to use when the power button is pressed. Options include Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep, and Shut Down.
•    Then clicking on the Customize will display the Customize Start Menu dialog box.
•    Now, you can use the options in the dialog box in order to control the general appearance of the Start menu for your Computer.
•    After that, click OK and then click OK again in order to close the Taskbar And Start Menu Properties dialog box.

At the same time, some of the items have sub-options Display As a Link., Display As A Menu and Don’t Display This Item. In this case, Display As A Link specifies that an item, such as Control Panel, Display As A Menu specified that an item will provide the access to a submenu that lets you choose from its related options. Don’t Display will remove the items from the Start menu.

Other Customize Start Menu dialog box options you’ll see include the following:

Enable Context Menus And Dragging And Dropping : If you select this option, users can right click to display a shortcut menu and they can use drag and drop. Similarly, you can enable this option if there is no any peculiar reason to disable it.

Highlight Newly Installed Programs : If you select this option, recently installed applications will be highlighted as the menu options.

Open Submenus When I Pause On Them With The Mouse Pointer : If you choose this option, it will control the behavior of menus and menus will be opened if you point the cursor to them. Otherwise, menus will be opened when you click on them.

Sort All Programs Menu By Name : This option controls whether the menu items are organized alphabetically or by the order of installation. If you select this option, menu items will be sorted alphabetically and if you don’t select this option menu items will be listed in the order of installation.

Use Large Icons : This option controls the size of the menu options. If you clear this option, the size of the icons in the menus will be reduced otherwise they will be displayed in standard size icons on menus.

Number Of Recent Programs To Display : This option is used to control the numbers of shortcuts to recently used programs that appear in the most frequently used list on the Start Menu. Moreover, you can use the selection menu to assign a value from 0-30.

Number of Recent Items To Display In Jump List : This option is used to list the shortcuts of the recently used items appear in Jump list. This list lists recent items organized by the program that you use to open them. You can view them in the Start menu and the Taskbar.
