How To Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 In Windows Operating Systems

Usually, before you are going to install you have to check for the compatibility of Internet Explorer 8. However, if you don’t want to do that and you just want to uninstall or remove the Internet Explorer 8 from your Computer, this article will help you.

If you remove Internet Explorer 8 from your Computer, your earlier version of Internet Explorer will be restored with your customizations like Addins, Favorites and your Home page. Therefore, if you uninstall the IE 8 you should have to install any third-party web browser in order to browse the net. If you still want to uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow the instructions for your version of Windows. Remember, you should log in as an Administrator.



If you don’t know which version of Internet Explorer you are running,
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Than click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu. The version will be listed here.
Important Note:
You can’t uninstall the Internet Explorer 8, if it is set as not removable. This will be possible if you have installed the IE8 before you uninstall the Service Pack3 for the Windows XP Operating System. Therefore, you should uninstall SP3 before you uninstall the Internet Explorer 8. It is a famous message that “You cannot Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8 after you install Windows Service Pack 3”.

Follow the steps to uninstall Internet Explorer in Windows 7
1. First, you should close all programs.
2. Then, click Start and then choose Control Panel.
3. After that, under Programs, click on “Uninstall a program”.
4. In the tasks pane, you should click “Turn Windows features on or off”.
5. Clear the check box next to Internet Explorer 8 in the list of windows features,
6. Click Yes if you receive a warning message in a pop-up window.
7. Once you click on Yes, you should restart the Computer to take effect.
8. All it is done. Now, Internet Explorer is successfully uninstalled.
Follow the steps to uninstall Internet Explorer in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008
1. First, you should close all programs.
2. Then, click Start and then choose Control Panel.
3. After that, under Programs, click on “Uninstall a program”.
4. Click on “View installed updates” in the Tasks pane.
5. Double-click on “Windows Internet Explorer 8” in the list of installed updates.
6. If you cant find the Internet Explorer in the list of installed updates, try the steps given at the end of this article as “Alternative Steps to Uninstall Internet Explorer 8”.
7. Then click Yes on the Uninstall an Update dialog box.
8. Now, if you are prompted for a password or for confirmation, just type the password and click on Continue.
9. Then follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
10. After finishing the un-installation, restart the Computer.

Follow the steps to uninstall Internet Explorer in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003
1. First, you should close all programs.
2. Then, click Start and then choose Control Panel.
3. After that, click Add or Remove Programs.
4. In the list of currently installed programs, click on “Windows Internet Explorer 8” and then click Remove.
5. Then follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
6. After finishing the un-installation, restart the Computer.
7. Once you restart you Computer, open the Internet Explorer.
8. Then click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu, if you find Internet Explorer 6 or 7, you have successfully finish the un-installation.

Alternative steps to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008
1. Take care to copy following command:
FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

2. Click on Start and then type Cmd.exe in the Start Search box.
3. After that, in the list of programs, right-click Cmd.exe.
4. Then click Run as administrator.
5. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, enter the password and then click on “Continue”.
6. Now, you have to right click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
7. If you press Enter, the system will uninstall the Internet Explorer 8.
8. As usual, restart the Computer, when you finish the process.

Alternative steps to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003

1. Take care to copy following command:
%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe

2. Click on Start and then type Cmd.exe in the Start Search box.
3. Then, in the Open box, type Cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
4. Now, you have to right click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
5. If you press Enter, the system will uninstall the Internet Explorer 8.
6. As usual, restart the Computer, when you finish the process.
7. Once you restart you Computer, open the Internet Explorer.
8. Then click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu, if you find Internet Explorer 6 or 7, you have successfully finish the un-installation.

This is the fact, after successfully uninstalling Internet Explorer 8, you can notice Application Even Log Errors after each reboot. If you want to resolve the problem, you should delete the following Internet Explorer User Accelerators and Internet Explorer Machine Accelerators registry keys in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions:

{CF7639F3-ABA2-41DB-97F2-81E2C5DBFC5D}

Before all of the above steps, you should verify your environment
If you are unable to detect your environment, but if you know what it is, you can click on Change Your Environment at the end of the section.
Please follow these steps if you need help verifying your environment.

1. Go to Start or click Start Search.
2. Then click Run.
3. Type msinfo32 in the Open box and then click OK.
4. Now you can locate your operating system next to the OS Name line.
5. Moreover, you can locate your architecture type next to the System Type line.
