• Remember, the router category will be unavailable in some configurations.
• Now, click Start.

If still Windows Home Server can’t automatically configure the router, Microsoft recommends you to contact the router vendor for information to manually forward the required ports.

Remember, before you are going to manually configure the router to forward the required ports to Windows Home Server, Microsoft recommends you to use a DHCP reservation to configure the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol *DHCP) function on the router. Therefore, it is guarantee that the IP address to which you would forward the ports will not be changed.

You should follow these steps if Windows Home Server cannot configure the router
Method 1: You should verify the physical network configuration
First, verify that this router is turned on and the Computer installed with Windows Home Server is directly connected to the router using an Ethernet cable.

Method 2: You should verify that the UPnP feature is enabled on the router
If it is not enabled, follow these steps to enable the UPnP setting on the router.
• Click settings, in the Windows Home Server Console.
• Then click Remote Access.
• Now, click Setup and then click on Ok.
• Click Configure Router from the Router Configuration Details page. If you click on it, the configuration Webpage for the router will be opened. If it is not opened manually, you should connect the router manually.
• Now, type the username and password to log on to the router. If you want to know more information, contact the router manufacturer.
• Now, find the UPnP settings page on the router configuration web page.
• Now, you can Turn ON the UPnP settings for the router.
• After that, save the configuration and then close the browser.
• If the router prompts for restart, wait until the restart is completed.
• Then on the Router Configuration Details page, click Refresh to run the configuration test again.

Method 3: You should verify that the router has the latest firmware installed
To determine whether you have the latest firmware installed on the router, see the Help documentation for the router, or contact the router manufacturer.
• First, you have to verify that the latest firmware is installed on the router. If you want to verify, see the Help documentation for the router or you can contact router manufacturer.
• If you want to update the firmware from the configuration Web page for the router, you can do it by clicking Configure Router on the Router Configuration Details page.
• Click Refresh on the Router Configuration Details page to run the configuration tests again, once you update the firmware on the router.
