Errors occur when try to uninstall a program in Windows

Windows Installer CleanUp utility is the perfect choice for you, if you’re getting error messages while trying to uninstall or remove any program from the Computer. This utility is able to remove the registry entries that are not removable due to corrupted files or improper installation or un-installation.


  • This Windows Installer CleanUp utility works only with the applications that are installed with a package of Windows Installer.

  • The programs installed using a Windows Installer package will install from a setup file with the *.msi file name extension.

  1. You can download the Windows Installer Clean Up utility from Microsoft.

  2. After downloading the Windows Installer Clean Up utility, navigate to the Directory and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility.

  • For Windows Vista and Windows 7 Operating Systems, right click on Windows Install Clean Up and then run as an Administrator.

  • Now, you have to enter the administrator password if you’re prompted.

  • Then click Continue or click Yes.

  • At the same time, if you’re having Windows XP Operating System, you can click on Windows Install Clean Up.

  • Then open the installed Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Start, All Programs and right click to choose Run as Administrator.

  • Go to Start button, click on All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up (For Windows XP).

  • Now, you can view the installed programs with a Windows Installer package.

  1. Now, you can select the Program that you want to uninstall and then click the Remove button from the Windows Installer CleanUp window.

  2. Click on the OK button from the Windows Installer CleanUp window.

  3. Once you finish the un-installation process, close the Windows Installer CleanUp window.

  4. Now, restart the Computer.

  5. After restarting the Computer, open the Windows Install CleanUp application, check for the program if it’s removed.

  6. If the program still available, you can try performing the steps in Safe Mode.

  7. Remember, when you uninstall the application, configuration settings and saved files will be deleted from the Computer.

  8. If it’s okay, go to Windows Explorer and navigate to the program folder that you want to remove or delete.

  9. Now, it can be reinstalled.

Important Notes:

  • You should check if the program documentation is compatible with the Operating System before installing and reinstalling the program.

  • If the program is not compatible, contact the program manufacturer to see if there are updates or newer versions of the software available that will allow it to operate correctly in the operating system.

  • If the program is not compatible, you can contact the manufacturer to check if there is any update for the program.

  • If the program is not verified as compatible, you can try installing using Compatibility mode in the Windows Vista or Windows 7 Operating System.

Important Warning:

Performing un-installation and re-installation has a risk of Software corruption and Data loss. Therefore, you have to reinstall some or all application in the Computer that were installed earlier using the Windows Installer package.
