How to work DTP with Linux using the Pagestream

Amiga is one of the finest names (platforms) that you never forget. The other one is Pagestream, it has begun its process during 1986 as a publishing partner of the Atari Computers. However, during 1989 it was ported for the Amiga platform with its current name Pagestream. Then, after a long time that was during the year 1996 Pagesream got ready to work with Macintosh Platform. At present, Pagestream makes itself work with Linux, Mac and Windows platforms.
Although all the above platforms already have a few powerful DTP Applications, yet Pagestream is able to take a sort of “GIMP-like” approach to the UI. Therefore, if you’re a Linux lover, it will be more comfortable to work with the Pagestream. You can get a piece of information from this article about get going with the Pagestream.

No need to install, just DOWNLOAD
If you’re ready to use this tool, first download the correct version as per the architecture. Before downloading the tool, it is required to register on the site to receive a download link. This download will be available in the form of a .bz2 file. Remember, before you install the file, you’ve to create a new directory where you have to run the Application from. The main reason to create a new directory is, the Pagestream will explode of its constituent parts in the Directory you unpack. Therefore, it is recommended to create a new directory like ~/Page with the command mkdir ~/Page. After creating the Directory, you can move the downloaded file in to the ~/Page directory with the command mv PageStream5.XXX.tar.bz2 ~/Page. Here ‘XXX” is the release number.
After that, it is required to change into that ~/Page directory with the command cd ~/Page and then follow the following commands:

•    bunzip2 PageStream5.XXX.tar.bz2 (Where XXX is the release number).
•    tar xvf PageStream5.XXX.tar
After following the above commands, you can get a new folder with full of the files and the subfolders.

How to run and use

Now, you can see a few files with the executable permissions within the ~/Page directory. At the same time, you can’t view any installation file and instructions in the folder. Here, you’ve to make sure that which file you’re going to use to run the Pagestream. If you’re issuing the command (from within ~/Page) ./Run-PageStream5 the Pagestream UI will launch and you are ready to use the tool.
The UI for the Pagestream will have the three windows as follows.
•    Navigator: It is about how you open files, set preferences, read tips, and quit the application.
•    Toolbar: This is about what you would normally see on attached to a window and it has the buttons for formatting, print, undo, and more.
•    Toolbox: It has your Tools.

If you click on the New Button, you can get a work window and the Navigator will be closed. At the same time, the Work Windows is able to look very much like a standard DTP Window as shown on the image. You can get the following options when you right click on the Window.

•    Insert graphic
•    Export graphic
•    Paste
•    Text wrap
•    Line and fill
•    Transform
•    Rotate
•    Aline
You can use the above options respectively.

New Micro battery, power packed for high performance

For a size of a few millimetres, the new micro-batteries are powerful enough to jump start a car battery and then quickly charge the cell phone. Researchers from the University of Illinois have developed the micro batteries which can be used to drive compact electronic devices and new applications for radio communications. The micro batteries are so good that they can even out power the super capacitors. The results were published in ‘Nature Communications’ in the April 16 issue. The micro batteries have energy and power and with the researchers tweaking the structure of the micro batteries a little bit, its use can be for wide range applications.

The high performance of the micro battery is based on its 3-dimensional micro-structure. Based on the design of fast charging cathode by Professor Paul Braun’s group, researchers developed the matching anode and integrated it with the fast charging cathode at a micro-scale and made a complete battery with high performance. These batteries cou…
