How to print the content of the Directory from the Context Menu

If you’re the one who prints out the content of the folders regularly using the Freeware, this tip will be the finest one for you. Using this tip, you can save your time as you can right click on a folder and choose “Print Directory”.  You can create a Context Menu using a small executable batch-file and a little registry tweak to print the content of any folder. All you have to do is, just right click on the folder name, Choose: Print Directory and: Voila.
If you’re an XP user, you have three steps where as it is two for the Vista and 7 users.



First Step for all version of the Windows.
First, it is required to create a small executable batch file and it is known as Printdir.bat.
1.    First, click on the Start menu, click Run, type notepad, and click OK. Instead, you can press the Windows Logo and the R Keys together to open the Run Command window.
2.    After opening the Notepad file, paste the following text in it.
3.    @echo off
dir %1 /-p /o:gn > "%temp%\Listing"
start /w notepad /p "%temp%\Listing"
del "%temp%\Listing"
exit
4.    Then, select File and then Save As.
5.    Now, in the Save As dialog box, type: %windir%\Printdir.bat
(This will save the file in your Windows Directory).
6.    After that click Save.
Second Step for the XP users.
In Windows XP, it is required to create a new action for file folders.
1.    First, click on the Start Menu, then Control Panel, and then click Folder Options.
(Or, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then click Folder Options.)
2.    Then, on the File Types tab, click File Folder.
3.    After clicking on the File Folder, click Advanced, and then New.
4.    Then, in the Action box, type: Print Directory.
5.    If you’ve finished typing, in the Application used to perform action box, type: printdir.bat.
6.    Then, click OK.
7.    Again click OK two more times, and then click Close.
8.    Now, you can right click on a folder and check if you’r able to print out the contents. If you’ve successfully printed, no issues. Otherwise, go the third step.
Third Step for the XP Users.
As this step requires editing the Registry, making sure that you’ve backed up the Registry to avoid fatal errors.
If you modify the registry incorrectly, some serious problems might occur and these issues might require reinstalling the Operating System. Therefore, ensure that you follow the steps carefully. At the same time, if you want to take a backup of the Registry, you can take if before modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs or whenever you want. Search for the article and backup the Registry Files safely.

2.    Then, in the Registry Editor.
3.    You have to locate the Default value under the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
4.    Then, in the Edit menu, click Modify.
5.    After that, in the Value data box, type: none.
6.    Then, click on OK.
7.    Exit Registry Editor.
Steps for Windows Vista and Windows 7 Users
As this step requires editing the Registry, making sure that you’ve backed up the Registry to avoid fatal errors.

5.    After that, type: Print Directory, and press ENTER.
6.    Then, again right-click on “Print Directory”, Choose New, Key.
7.    Now, it is required to call the new key: command, then press ENTER.

9.    Then, click OK.
10.    Then, exit the Registry Editor.
11.    Now, all it is done
